Behaviour for learning

"Pupils behave very well in lessons and around the school site. Classrooms are calm and purposeful, and pupils settle to work quickly." (Ofsted, 2026)

We are very proud of our behaviour learning policy at Queensmead.

It is shared and understood by the whole community. The key to its success is in its consistent application; it is used in every aspect of school life, and ensures that our community practices our four school values - independence, kindness, respect and resilience. We want every students at Queensmead to be able to fulfil their potential, while also be conscientious and mature enough to take responsibility for their actions.

It ensures that our students understand what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour, and enables every students understands that their choices and the consequences of their decisions. We expect that every student will:

  • behave with courtesy and respect
  • follow staff instructions, the first time of asking
  • care for and preserve a pleasant school environment
  • be punctual and properly prepared for lessons
  • wear the correct uniform

Our Behaviour for Learning plan is displayed in every teaching room. If a behaviour is not meeting expected standards of behaviour, then a member of staff will apply the following:

  • CHANCE – the reason for the chance will be explained. It is an opportunity for the student to correct their behaviour.
  • WARNING – the reason for the warning will be explained. It is a warning that they have continued to disrupt learning and if it continues, they will be removed from the class.
  • REMOVAL – the student will be removed from the lesson by a member of the Leadership Group. They will receive a 60-minute detention to be served on the same day.

Mobile phones are not permitted to be used on-site at any time which includes after the school day. They must be switched off and kept in a student's school bag. Students must wait until they leave the school gates before taking out their phones.
